CHARACTER CONSTRUCTION

There is no right or wrong way of constructing characters. It really is a case of trial-and-error. In my experience, however it is always useful to keep a supply of, latex, MDF, foamboard, plasticine, PVA glue and fibreglass, as these are the most likely materials that you will use.

Even armature construction can be flexible. In their simplest form, armatures can be made using aluminium wire, but armatures of this nature require constant repairs. We recommend that you use a more substantial ball and socket armature, like the one used for Banji, pictured left. You will undoubtedly discover that, sometimes it can be the most unexpected of things, which will make all the difference to a model. I, for example, have found that, tealeaves can be used to add fine detail to a forest floor, and that foam earplugs can be used to pad out the arms of characters.
