PRE-PRODUCTION

Before you can start animating there are certain tasks that you will need to complete. The following is a list of the most important:

Storyline/Screenplay

Character/Set construction
Character Design
Sound Recording
Storyboards
Dope Sheets

You will find, that the more you do at the planning stage, the easier it will be when you start to animate. Animation is a time consuming process, but it is definitely worth investing extra time in the planning stage. There is nothingmore frustrating than spending several weeks animating a scene, which you later realise is not needed in the telling of your story.

Use the right-hand-side nav-bar to explore the relevent stages of animated production. In each section you will find useful information and links to pages that explain the production process of my film, Monkey Shelter. This section of the web site sets out to look at the fundermental processes that go into producing an animated film. It has not been created as a complete guide and essentially just introduces you to the basic requirements of each stage of production. For those interested in finding out further information, we have included links to books which we consider to be useful.
