EQUIPMENT

To produce an animation, you will need the following:

Pencil & Paper

Camera

Peg Bar Tripod/Steady Camera
Light Box

Most two-dimensional animation techniques require a light box and a method of registration. Traditional two-dimensional work involves drawing action frame-by-frame. Once the first frame of an action is drawn, it can then be used as a reference for several subsequent frames. This is aided by the use of a light box, which enhances the previous drawing in much the same way as using a window aids tracing something.

A light box is not essential, as the use of thin paper will enable you to see through to the previous frame. A method of registration, however is a must. There are a few options for this, including the use of masking tape. The best method, however is the use of a peg bar. These are very cheap (they are available from our online shop) and hold paper steady for both production drawings and subsequent shooting. The down side of this method is that you will either have to buy a very expensive hole punch or purchase pre-punched animation paper.
